Very strange to be sitting in mid-Wales writing a pantomime knowing that Awful Egyptians is still playing away to fantastic reviews in Australia
First few months have been quite quiet. Done some work with the final design students at Welsh College of Music and Drama on their portfolios. Very talented students. Will work with them again in a few weeks. If you get a chance to see their final exhibition in Cardiff or London, do go and see it. I know it will be terrific. Have now finished casting for NOISES OFF. Looks like a terrific cast. Can’t wait
Starting to build a positive working relationship with the University of South Wales. (formerly University of Glamorgan where I did my Phd) Lots of new staff and energy. Really looking forward to creating some interesting work with them. Innovation would be good. Everywhere I look theatre seems to be creatively “safe”. Where is the “new” ? Its important that the schools , colleges and universities challenge and question the profession.
Just about to bring back CAITLIN by Mike Kenny and performed by Helen Griffin. This is the story of Dylan Thomas wife. Its a great play with a fantastic performance by Helen. It will play at the Grand Theatre, Swansea as part of the Dylan Thomas 100 years Celebration. If you get a chance please try and see it, Helens performance is memorable and really challenging
Just about to start working with Owen Calvert-Lyons , Artistic Director at The Point in Eastleigh developing ideas. A very exciting opportunity to work together.
Apart from the above i’m looking forward to the summer and in the meantime excited about Hay Lit Festival , my dear best friend Roy Bailey will be performing with Billy Bragg to celebrate the life of Tony Benn. A great loss to the world. It will be a great concert. Also looking forward to seeing Simon Russel Beale play King Lear at the NT
Starting to develop some very interesting new partnerships in the last few months. I desperately need new challenges and invention. Exciting times….watch this space
